There was a cracking sound as the stick hit the ball but it was too late. Germany had won the London Visa International Final 5-2 against the reigning world champions, the Kookaburras, on May 6th.

The Kookaburras wore black armbands in memory of West Australian Lizzie Watkins, who died in a freak accident when a hockey ball struck the back of her head during a match during the weekend.
